Middle East News Network: Brazilian President Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa have called for a permanent ceasefire in Iran and across the Middle East.
\nSpeaking during a joint press conference in Bras\u00edlia, Ramaphosa said:
\n\u201cWe condemn the loss of lives, especially among civilians, as well as the destruction of vital infrastructure sites. We call on all parties involved in this conflict to immediately cease fire so that disputes can be resolved through negotiations.\u201d
\nThe South African leader affirmed that both presidents are calling for a peaceful resolution to the conflicts currently taking place in violation of the United Nations Charter.
\nOn February 28, the United States and Israel began striking targets in Iran, including Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties. Iran has responded with retaliatory strikes on Israeli territory, as well as targeting American military sites in the Middle East.
\nThe strikes on Iran were carried out despite ongoing negotiations over the Iranian nuclear file between Washington and Tehran, the latest round of which took place on February 26 in Geneva.
