Middle East News Network: Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem affirmed that \u201cthe Syrian people are free in their decisions, and they are entering a new phase that they will choose themselves, and we have no involvement in the matter,\u201d referring to the developments in Syria.
\nQassem added in a televised speech on Monday evening that \u201cthere are those who are spreading poison in order to create a problem between Syria and Lebanon,\u201d warning against attempts to strain relations between the two countries at this stage.
\nThe Hezbollah Secretary-General continued: \u201cI believe that the Syrian leadership and the Syrian people are aware that America is working to create a problem.\u201d
\nIn a related context, he pointed out that \u201csome are trying to ignite Sunni\u2013Shiite strife,\u201d considering that these attempts \u201cwill not succeed,\u201d and stressing that \u201cwe and the Sunnis are one heart.\u201d
\nLast August, Ahmad al-Sharaa called for opening a new page in relations between Syria and Lebanon, emphasizing the need to move beyond what he described as the \u201cnegative memory\u201d between the two countries.
\nAl-Sharaa explained that he avoided taking escalatory positions toward Hezbollah, considering that this issue represents a \u201cminefield,\u201d and that any uncalculated step could lead to an explosion of the situation.
\nHe also pointed out that investing in political and sectarian division in Lebanon is a wrong choice, stressing the need not to adopt this approach in Syria, and instead to push toward economic stability, which would positively reflect on both countries.
