Middle East News Network: Damascus has made explicit accusations against Israel of violating Syrian sovereignty in the southern part of the country through dangerous field practices, including military incursions and the abduction of civilians.<\/p>\n
Syria\u2019s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim Al-Olabi, stated during a United Nations Security Council session that Israeli occupation forces continue to expand their violations in southern Syria, going beyond the designated disengagement zone and reaching the summit of Mount Hermon, in a clear breach of international law and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.<\/p>\n
The representative revealed that these violations include storming villages and agricultural lands, uprooting trees, spraying crops with unknown chemical substances, establishing fortifications, and seizing Syrian water resources to divert them toward settlements in the occupied Golan.<\/p>\n
Regarding the detainees\u2019 file, he pointed out that the occupation practices a policy of nighttime abductions of civilians from their homes, stressing that dozens of detainees, including minors, have remained imprisoned in Israeli prisons for months. He called on the Security Council to intervene for their release in coordination with the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) and the Red Cross.<\/p>\n
The Syrian representative also referred to a recent report by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights documenting these violations, calling for urgent and independent investigations and an immediate halt to settlement activities in the occupied Golan.<\/p>\n
