خلال أسبوع أبوظبي للاستدامة مبادرة “نعمة” وشركة ” الدار” توقعان مذكرة تفاهم لمعالجة فقد وهدر الغذاء

شبكة الشرق الأوسط نيوز – أبوظبي، الإمارات العربية المتحدة، في 1 فبراير 2023: وقعت المبادرة الوطنية للحد من فقد وهدر الغذاء “نعمة وشركة ” الدار العقارية” ــ خلال “أسبوع أبوظبي للاستدامة ” ــ مذكرة تفاهم للتعاون المشترك في مجال معالجة فقد وهدر الغذاء في الدولة والإسهام في تحقيق الأجندة الوطنية للأمن الغذائي.

وتم توقيع المذكرة بحضور معالي مريم بنت محمد سعيد المهيري وزيرة التغير المناخي والبيئة، سعادة أحمد الشامسي الرئيس التنفيذي لمؤسسة الإمارات ــ التي تعد الشريك الرئيسي للمبادرة الوطنية “نعمة”، وسعادة طلال الذيابي الرئيس التنفيذي لمجموعة الدار العقارية.

وجرت مراسم التوقيع في الجناح المخصص لمجموعة الدار العقارية في أسبوع أبوظبي للاستدامة بحضور عدد من ممثلي الجانبين.

وقد شاركت “نعمة” في العديد من الفعاليات التي أُقيمت ضمن “أسبوع أبوظبي للاستدامة”، المنصة العالمية التي تجمع كبار المسؤولين وصناع القرار ومديري الشركات الكبرى وممثلي المنظمات وخبراء عالميين من أنحاء العالم لمناقشة قضايا البيئة والسياسات الهادفة إلى مواجهة التحديات العالمية.

وأطلقت “نعمة” خلال شهر فبراير 2022 لتكون مبادرة وطنية تهدف إلى الحد من فقد وهدر الغذاء، وذلك في أعقاب دعوة وجهها صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد بن زايد آل نهيان رئيس الدولة “حفظه الله” للعمل على معالجة الإسراف في التعامل مع الغذاء وتطوير نموذج اجتماعي يستند إلى ثقافة شعبنا وقيمه في ترشيد الاستهلاك وحفظ نعمة الطعام.

وتأسست المبادرة بالتعاون بين وزارة التغير المناخي والبيئة ومؤسسة الإمارات، الجهة المعنية بتكثيف الجهود الوطنية وتوحيدها للحد من فقد وهدر الغذاء على امتداد سلسلة الغذاء للإيفاء بالتزامات الدولة تجاه أهداف الأمم المتحدة الخاصة بالتنمية المستدامة خاصة الهدف رقم 12.3 الذي يهدف إلى خفض هدر الغذاء بنسبة النصف بحلول عام 2030.

وأكدت معالي مريم المهيري وزيرة التغير المناخي والبيئة بهذه المناسبة: “أهمية مذكرة التفاهم التي وقعتها مبادرة “نعمة” وشركة “الدار” والتي تأتي في إطار تعزيز الجهود المشتركة للحد من فقد وهدر الغذاء من خلال التعاون مع جميع الشركاء من المؤسسات الوطنية “.

وأشارت معاليها إلى التكلفة الباهظة لهذا الهدر على البيئة وصحة الإنسان وعلى الأمن الغذائي بصفة عامة. وقالت “نريد حث الناس على التفكير والتأمل في سلوكياتهم تجاه الغذاء والحفاظ على هذه النعمة التي حبانا الله بها في دولة الإمارات”، مشيرة إلى أن نحو 800 مليون شخص في العالم يعانون من الجوع وأن هدر الغذاء يمثل تحديا عالميا مشتركاً”.

وأضافت قائلةً: “ولذلك فإننا معنيون جميعاً باتخاذ خطوات بسيطة وجعلها عادات يومية لتقليل هدر الغذاء وبالتالي تقليل الآثار السلبية للتغير المناخي على كوكبنا”.

وتنص مذكرة التفاهم على أن يطور الطرفان ويطبقان حلولاً تسهم في إحداث تغيير إيجابي ومستدام في تقليل هدر الغذاء بجانب تصميم مبادرات وتنفيذ مشاريع مشتركة تعالج مختلف قطاعات سلسلة الغذاء بالاشتراك مع جميع الأطراف ذات العلاقة من قطاعات العمل المتنوعة التي تديرها شركة الدار للوصول إلى تقليل هدر الغذاء.

وتدعم الدار بموجب المذكرة مشاريع “نعمة” من خلال مدارس الدار وفنادقها ومجمعاتها التجارية والمجتمعات التي تشرف عليها في جزيرة ياس، لنشر الوعي بأهمية خفض هدر الغذاء وفرز الغذاء غير المستهلك منه، وتغيير السلوكيات الحالية واستبدالها بعادات أكثر استدامة.

وفي تعليقه على مذكرة التفاهم.. قال سعادة طلال الذيابي الرئيس التنفيذي لمجموعة الدار العقارية: “تُشكل شراكتنا مع مبادرة نعمة فرصة أخرى لشركة الدار للمساهمة في هذه الأولوية الوطنية، وهي تنسجم تماماً مع المبادئ التي أطلقناها مؤخراً في الالتزام بتحقيق صافي الانبعاثات الصفري. إن هدر الغذاء يشكل تحدياً كبيراً، وبوجود أصول لنا على امتداد قطاعات الضيافة، ومجال التجزئة، والتعليم، والمرافق التجارية والسكنية، فإننا نعتقد أن هذه الشراكة ستُمكِّن الدار والأطراف المعنية من التقليل الكبير في هدر الغذاء الذي ينتهي في مكبات النفايات”.

وسيعمل الطرفان خلال الأسابيع القادمة على تحديد المشاريع المشتركة التي سيطلقانها لنشر الوعي في المجتمع وتشجيع التغيير السلوكي فيما يخص استهلاك الغذاء وعادات إدارة ما يتبقى من الغذاء، بهدف تغيير الأنماط الاجتماعية وتشجيع التعامل الرشيد مع الموارد الوطنية.

وقد وضعت الدار معايير متميزة ضمن قطاع التطوير العقاري المحلي في مجال الاستدامة والالتزام بمكافحة التغير المناخي بتبنيها أهداف صافي الانبعاثات الصفري في عملياتها بحلول 2030 ثم 2050. وتقتضي خطة الشركة بالوصول إلى صافي الانبعاثات الصفري ضمن نطاقات الانبعاثات الدفيئة 1 و2 و3 بحلول عام 2050. كما وضعت الدار أهدافاً مرحلية بحلول العام 2030، بتحقيق صافي الانبعاثات الصفري ضمن النطاق 1 و2 من الانبعاثات، وتخفيض كثافة انبعاثات النطاق 3 بنسبة 45% وفقاً لخط الأساس لبصمتها البيئية في عام 2021.

يذكر أن حوالي ثلث الغذاء الذي يُنتج عالمياً (والبالغ نحو 1.3 مليار طن) يُفقد في المراحل المختلفة من الحصاد والتصنيع والتوزيع ومحلات التجزئة أو يُهدر في مرافق تقديم الطعام والمنازل حول العالم.. ولظاهرة الفقد والهدر هذه، كلفة باهظة بيئياً حيث إن الطعام الذي ينتهي في مكبات النفايات مسؤول عن نحو 10% من الانبعاثات الكربونية عالمياً.

من جانبه قال سعادة أحمد الشامسي الرئيس التنفيذي لمؤسسة الإمارات: “إننا نطمح إلى صياغة رؤية مستقبلية إيجابية وجاذبة يكون تخفيض هدر الغذاء بموجبها مكسباً لجميع القطاعات”.

وأضاف قائلاً: “كما نسعى إلى الاستفادة من التكنولوجيا الحديثة والأفكار والحلول المبتكرة لتعزيز الكفاءة وخفض التكاليف الناتجة عن تقليل هدر الغذاء إضافة إلى استكشاف السياسات التي يمكنها تطوير بيئة داعمة تؤثر إيجابياً في التعامل مع مسألة هدر الغذاء”.

وقال سعادته في تصريحه: ” سعداء بالعمل معاً مع شركة الدار العقارية الشريك الوطني لتحقيق هدف مبادرة نعمة في تخفيض هدر الغذاء إلى النصف بحلول عام 2030، ونرى أن هذه الشراكة ستكون بإذن الله فاتحة لشراكات وطنية عديدة أخرى”.

وتشكل مذكرة التفاهم بين الطرفين بداية لشراكات أخرى بين “نعمة” والعديد من الجهات المعنية بهذا المسعى الوطني لتحقيق أهداف “نعمة” في خفض فقد وهدر الغذاء بنسبة 50% بحلول عام 2030.

حول مبادرة “نعمة”
يأتي إطلاق “نعمة” المبادرة الوطنية للحد من فقد وهدر الغذاء تأكيداً على رؤية صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد بن زايد آل نهيان، رئيس الدولة، حفظه الله، لأهمية مواجهة فقد وهدر الغذاء ، وتشكيل منظومة استراتيجية على مستوى الدولة للتشجيع على تبني السلوكيات الإيجابية والترشيد في استهلاك الغذاء، لاستدامة الموارد بما يتوافق مع القيم الوطنية لدولة الإمارات، واستناداً إلى أسس المسؤولية المجتمعية، وإدارة الموارد الوطنية بكفاءة.

انبثقت مبادرة “نعمة” نتيجة تعاون مشترك بين “وزارة التغير المناخي والبيئة”، و”مؤسسة الإمارات” و”ديوان ولي عهد أبوظبي”، حيث ستعمل على تنسيق جهود الهيئات الحكومية والقطاع الخاص والمنظمات غير الحكومية والمجتمع تحت مظلة مشتركة، للحد من فقد وهدر الغذاء عبر سلسلة الإمداد الغذائية، ابتداءً من عملية الإنتاج إلى الاستهلاك والتي تشمل المزارع، الشركات، الموزعين، وبائعي التجزئة حتى الأفراد.

حول الدار

ne’ma Initiative and Aldar Sign an MoU to Address Food Loss and Waste

Abu Dhabi, 01 February 2023 – The National Food Loss and Waste Initiative “ne’ma” and “Aldar” signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week to mutually cooperate to tackle the issue of food loss and food waste in the UAE, and to contribute to achieving the National Food Security Agenda.

The MoU was signed in the presence of H.E. Mariam Mohammed Saeed Almheiri, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment; and was signed by H.E. Ahmed Al Shamsi, CEO of the Emirates Foundation, the key partner of ne’ma initiative, and Talal Al Dhiyebi, Group Chief Executive Officer at Aldar.

The signing ceremony took place at the Aldar pavilion at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week in the presence of representatives from both ne’ma and Aldar.

ne’ma actively participated in several activities organized during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, the global platform that brings together senior officials and decision-makers, major business executives, NGOs, and global experts from around the world to discuss environmental issues and policies to face global challenges.

ne’ma was launched in February 2022 as the national umbrella to tackle food loss and waste, following a call to action by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, to address the improvidence in food and to develop a social norm that builds on the UAE’s culture and values of responsible and sustainable consumption.

It was established in collaboration between the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and Emirates Foundation, which is mandated to consolidate and align national efforts to curb food loss and waste across the food value chain to meet the UAE’s commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 12:3 which aims to reduce food waste by 50% by 2030.

Commenting on the MoU, H.E. Mariam Almheiri, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, stressed on the “significance of the MoU signed by ne’ma and Aldar, bolstering joint efforts to reduce food loss and waste through the cooperation of all national stakeholders.”
H.E. stressed the high cost of food waste on the environment, on human health, and on food security in general, reiterating that “we want to get people to think and reflect on their behavior around food to cherish this resource which we are privileged and blessed to have access to here in the UAE,” adding that more than 800 million people around the world suffer from hunger and that food waste is a collective global challenge.

“Therefore, we all have a role to take simple steps we can make into our daily routine that can reduce food waste and in return the negative impacts of climate change on our planet,” H.E. concluded.

The MoU provides that both parties shall facilitate and implement innovative solutions that can be scaled to introduce positive and sustainable change to reducing food waste, and design collaborative initiatives and projects across the food value chain with stakeholders from Aldar’s diverse business sectors to achieve the food waste reduction goals.

As part of the MoU, Aldar undertakes to support ne’ma pilot projects through Aldar schools, communities, hotels, and malls on Yas Island, raising awareness about the importance of reducing and segregating food waste and shifting people’s behaviors to more sustainable consumption habits.

Commenting on the MoU, Talal Al Dhiyebi, Group Chief Executive Officer at Aldar, said, “Our partnership with ne’ma is another opportunity for Aldar to contribute to a national sustainability priority and aligns perfectly with the principles of our recently launched net zero commitment. Food waste is a significant challenge and with assets across hospitality, retail, education, commercial, and residential we believe that this partnership will enable Aldar and our stakeholders to significantly reduce food waste that ends up in the landfill.”

Both entities will work together in the coming weeks to better define pilot projects that will be launched to raise awareness in the community and encourage behavioral change in food consumption and waste management habits, create a shift in social norms, and promote good stewardship of national resources.

With its own 2030 and 2050 goals of reaching Net Zero across its operations, Aldar is setting the benchmark for national real estate players in terms of sustainability and commitment to combat climate change. The company’s plan is to become Net Zero across its Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 greenhouse gas (“GHG”) emissions by 2050. Aldar has also set science-aligned 2030 interim targets, which will see it achieve Net Zero in its Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions and deliver a 45% reduction in the intensity of its Scope 3 GHG emissions relative to the company’s 2021 baseline.

Globally, it is estimated that one-third of the food produced (about 1.3 billion tonnes) is either lost at the various stages of production, processing, distribution, and retail or else wasted by food service providers and households. The impact of this ominous reality on the environment is quite hefty as wasted food that ends up in landfills accounts for 10 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions.

“We want to shape and spread an engaging and enticing vision for the future, making it a win for all sectors to practice food waste reduction,” said H.E. Ahmed Al Shamsi, CEO of the Emirates Foundation.

“We plan to look at ways of integrating technology and innovation to enhance efficiency and bring about cost savings as a result of food waste reduction, as well as explore policy areas that can create an enabling environment that positively impacts the food waste ecosystem,” Al Shamsi added.

H.E. concluded that “We are glad to work together with Aldar, the national partner, to achieve ne’ma’s goal of reducing food waste by 50% by 2030, and we think that this partnership will hopefully usher the way for other national partnerships.”

The MoU is expected to open the way for other partnerships between ne’ma and other major stakeholders within an aligned national endeavor to achieve ne’ma’s objective of 50% food waste reduction by 2030.
