Lebanon: Arrest of an Agent Who Crossed the Border and Met with Israelis
Middle East News Network :
The website Lebanon Debate reported that a resident of the southern town of Ansar has been arrested on suspicion of collaborating with Israel.
According to the report, about a month ago the Information Branch of Lebanon’s Internal Security Forces carried out a special operation that led to the arrest of a man identified as (Ahmad M.), after monitoring and tracking him over suspicions of communication with Israeli entities.
The operation was executed by the strike force of the Information Branch. Security forces raided Al-Qubaisi Station in the town of Ansar while the suspect was inside his car in front of the station. Military vehicles surrounded the area—numbering more than eight—completely closed the road, and prevented civilians from approaching, in a notable security scene reflecting the sensitivity and importance of the mission.
After his arrest, the suspect was referred to the competent authorities to complete the investigation, which revealed new and serious developments. An informed source disclosed that investigations confirmed his actual involvement in collaborating with the Israeli enemy, and that the information he provided contributed to the targeting of facilities within the outskirts of Ansar in recent months through shelling operations carried out by Israel.
According to the source, the suspect was not a minor figure but rather a high-level agent due to his direct communication with Israelis and the volume of sensitive information he allegedly supplied.
Investigations also showed that he entered the occupied Palestinian territories more than once, where he met with his Israeli handlers. Additional meetings reportedly took place during visits he made to Germany and Italy, indicating communication methods beyond traditional channels and the use of multiple means for coordination.
The suspect has been referred to the Permanent Military Court in preparation for the appropriate legal measures to be taken against him, and formal charges are expected to be filed in the coming days.
