Brazilian and South African Presidents Call for an Immediate Ceasefire in Iran

Middle East News Network: Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa have called for a permanent ceasefire in Iran and across the Middle East.
Speaking during a joint press conference in Brasília, Ramaphosa said:
“We condemn the loss of lives, especially among civilians, as well as the destruction of vital infrastructure sites. We call on all parties involved in this conflict to immediately cease fire so that disputes can be resolved through negotiations.”
The South African leader affirmed that both presidents are calling for a peaceful resolution to the conflicts currently taking place in violation of the United Nations Charter.
On February 28, the United States and Israel began striking targets in Iran, including Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties. Iran has responded with retaliatory strikes on Israeli territory, as well as targeting American military sites in the Middle East.
The strikes on Iran were carried out despite ongoing negotiations over the Iranian nuclear file between Washington and Tehran, the latest round of which took place on February 26 in Geneva.
