Araghchi Threatens to Target U.S. Military Bases in the Region if Iran Comes Under American Attack
Middle East News Network: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Iran would target U.S. military bases in the Middle East if the United States launches an attack on Iran.
In an interview with CBS, Araghchi said in response to a related question:
“If the United States attacks us, we have every right to defend ourselves. Our missiles cannot reach American territory, so obviously we would have to do something else. We would have to strike American bases in the region.”
The Middle East is currently witnessing the largest U.S. military buildup in decades, with reports describing the current deployments as preparations for potential military operations against Iran amid heightened tensions in the nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
The United States has deployed a strike group in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Oman, including the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and missile-equipped destroyers.
The aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford—the newest and largest in the U.S. fleet—is also heading to the region (recently sighted off Gibraltar) to join the forces stationed there.
