“Paper Tiger”.. Former U.S. Official Describes NATO’s Current Situation as the Worst in Its History

Middle East News Network: Max Bergmann, a former official at the U.S. State Department, said that NATO is currently experiencing its worst state since its establishment due to the position of the United States.
Bergmann, who serves as Director of the Europe, Russia, and Eurasia Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, added: “NATO is going through its worst situation since its founding.”
Earlier, Reuters, citing diplomats, reported that the conflict between the United States and Israel with Iran has nearly “broken” the alliance and threatens to leave it in its weakest state since its creation. Meanwhile, recent statements from Washington against NATO amid this conflict have raised unprecedented concerns that the United States may not come to the aid of its allies if they come under attack.
In an interview with The Telegraph on Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he is seriously considering withdrawing the United States from NATO after the alliance refused to participate in the operation against Iran.
Trump said he had long considered NATO a “paper tiger,” noting that Russia is also aware of this.
