Hezbollah Secretary-General: The Syrian people are free in their decisions and are entering a new phase they will choose themselves, and we have no involvement in the matter

Middle East News Network: Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem affirmed that “the Syrian people are free in their decisions, and they are entering a new phase that they will choose themselves, and we have no involvement in the matter,” referring to the developments in Syria.
Qassem added in a televised speech on Monday evening that “there are those who are spreading poison in order to create a problem between Syria and Lebanon,” warning against attempts to strain relations between the two countries at this stage.
The Hezbollah Secretary-General continued: “I believe that the Syrian leadership and the Syrian people are aware that America is working to create a problem.”
In a related context, he pointed out that “some are trying to ignite Sunni–Shiite strife,” considering that these attempts “will not succeed,” and stressing that “we and the Sunnis are one heart.”
Last August, Ahmad al-Sharaa called for opening a new page in relations between Syria and Lebanon, emphasizing the need to move beyond what he described as the “negative memory” between the two countries.
Al-Sharaa explained that he avoided taking escalatory positions toward Hezbollah, considering that this issue represents a “minefield,” and that any uncalculated step could lead to an explosion of the situation.
He also pointed out that investing in political and sectarian division in Lebanon is a wrong choice, stressing the need not to adopt this approach in Syria, and instead to push toward economic stability, which would positively reflect on both countries.
