Trump Relies on King Charles III’s Visit to Improve UK–US Relations

Middle East News Network:

U.S. President Donald Trump expressed confidence that the upcoming visit of King Charles III to the United States will help improve relations between Washington and London.

In an interview with BBC, Trump responded to a direct question on the matter, saying: “Absolutely. He’s wonderful. He’s a wonderful person. My answer is definitely yes.”

He added: “I know him well—I’ve known him for years. He’s a courageous and great man. This will certainly be positive.”

The official visit of King Charles III and his wife, Queen Camilla, to the United States is scheduled to take place from April 27 to April 30. The King will visit at the invitation of the U.S. President and based on the advice of the British government.

During the visit, the British monarch is expected to deliver a speech before the U.S. Congress. This will mark only the second time in history that a British monarch addresses the American legislature, and the first in 25 years.

A number of members of the House of Commons from the Liberal Democrats have called on the UK government to advise King Charles III against making the visit.

They believe that London could use this step to signal its disapproval of Trump’s criticism of Britain for refusing to join U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran.

It is worth noting that Trump has made several harsh remarks about UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on multiple occasions.
