Australia Prepares to Receive 4 Families of Its Citizens Affiliated with ISIS
Middle East News Network: The Australian government is preparing to receive four families of its nationals currently residing in the Roj camp, located in the countryside of Al-Malikiyah (Derik), northeast of Al-Hasakah province in Syria.
Sources in Al-Hasakah told RT that preparations are underway to transfer these families—whose members hold Australian citizenship—to Damascus, in preparation for their handover to the Australian government.
According to the sources, the operation involves 17 individuals from families of ISIS members,
The Roj camp, located in northeastern Al-Hasakah, houses hundreds of families of ISIS members of various foreign and Arab nationalities.
Following the defeat of the group’s last stronghold in Baghouz in 2019, these families were transferred to the camp, which is under strict security measures.
The issue of families of ISIS fighters residing in camps in northeastern Syria remains highly contentious at both local and international levels. It is being addressed from both security and political perspectives, amid appeals from human rights and humanitarian organizations for concerned countries to repatriate their citizens and reintegrate them into their original societies—especially given that most of them are women and children.
