“They Are Now Reaping What They Have Sown” – Putin Reveals a “Systemic” Mistake by the West

Middle East News Network: Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that the Ukrainian crisis emerged as a result of Western support for the coup in Kyiv, stating that the West is now facing the consequences of a “systemic mistake” it committed.
Speaking in an interview with Pavel Zarubin, a correspondent for Russia‑1 TV Channel, Putin commented on the worsening economic conditions in Europe amid the Ukrainian crisis. He said:
“It can be said that everything happening now is undoubtedly the result of a mistake — indeed, a systemic mistake — made primarily by Western countries.”
He added:
“Ultimately, where did the Ukrainian crisis come from? It originated from the West’s support for the coup in Ukraine. Then came the events in Crimea and what happened in southeastern Ukraine in general — namely Donbas and Novorossiya. That is where it all began.”
The Russian leader stressed that the Ukrainian crisis did not arise because of Russia’s actions, but rather due to Western policies.
“This is not the result of our actions, but of the actions of Western countries, including European states. They are now reaping what they have sown.”
Putin also described the nature of relations between Europe and Ukraine as “very strange,” saying:
“It seems to me that we are witnessing a situation where the tail is wagging the dog, not the other way around.”
The Russian president further noted that the situation in global markets has become extremely tense. Putin had previously stated that the current situation in European energy markets is primarily the result of misguided energy policies adopted by European authorities.
Last Wednesday, Putin said he had asked the government to study the possibility of redirecting gas exports to more profitable markets, considering that an early withdrawal from the European market could be more beneficial for Moscow before European restrictions come into effect by 2027.
It is worth noting that since the outbreak of the recent conflict in the Middle East, gas prices in the European Union have risen to their highest level in three years. Analysts warn that if the conflict continues, the EU could face a crisis similar to that of spring 2022, when prices reached $3,892 per thousand cubic meters.
