Ramadan Is Approaching… Are We Preparing Our Hearts Before Our Tables?
Mohieddin Ghneim – Jordan
The month of mercy is drawing near — a month in which tranquility descends, the gates of heaven are opened, good deeds are multiplied, and souls are freed from the Fire. It is the month of immense الخير, the month of fasting and night prayer, the month of the Qur’an and compassion — a month in which hearts are purified before bodies.
Ramadan is not a season for food and drink, nor a competition in lavish tables. It is a great spiritual station, a comprehensive self-review, and a golden opportunity for those weighed down by sins and burdened by the hardships of life. It is a month that rearranges our priorities and reminds us that human beings do not live by bread alone, but by values, mercy, and solidarity.
But… how do we welcome Ramadan when the doors of poverty knock on so many homes?
How can we celebrate its arrival when some cannot secure their daily bread?
In our beloved homeland, Jordan, many citizens struggle with difficult living conditions, scarce resources, and rising costs of life. Families wait for relief. Households strive to secure the basics. Children dream of a simple joy with the arrival of the blessed month.
Here lies the profound wisdom of Ramadan: to feel for one another, to share our bread, and to revive the true meaning of solidarity.
Preparing for Ramadan is not about buying more — it is about giving more.
It is not about storing food — it is about storing good deeds.
It is not about crowding the markets — it is about crowding the doors of الخير.
Let us begin now:
By extending a helping hand to a neighbor in need.
By checking on relatives before the month surprises us.
By settling the debt of someone in hardship, if we are able.
By supporting trusted charitable organizations, even with a small amount.
By offering a kind word that lifts the spirit of someone burdened by life.
Ramadan is a school of mercy. If we do not learn the meaning of giving within it, then when will we?
Charity given before Ramadan prepares the way for blessings within it. Good deeds done before its arrival are a sign of acceptance during it.
Let us remember that the greatest thing we carry into the blessed month is a sound heart, a sincere intention, and a firm resolve to reform. Let us cleanse our hearts of resentment. Let us mend what has been broken in our relationships. Let us make this Ramadan a true turning point in our lives.
Ramadan is coming… let its arrival be different for us this year.
Let us be the reason for someone else’s joy, just as we hope it will be the reason for ours.
O Allah, allow us to reach Ramadan and help us to fast and pray in it. Make us among the people of الخير and generosity. Relieve our people from hardship and replace their difficulty with ease. Indeed, You are All-Hearing, Near.
